How Nicotrol Gum Works
Nicotrol gum is a popular product that helps alleviate physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal when smokers start their journey towards quitting. It comes in a handy 2mg regular strength or 4mg extra strength pack of 105 pieces of classic flavored gum. The gum is sugar-free and releases nicotine directly into the mouth where it is effectively absorbed, providing relief while being chewed.
The best way to use Nicotrol gum is to follow this method:
1. Chew only one piece of gum at a time until the taste becomes strong
2. Rest the gum between the gum and the cheek
3. When the taste fades, recommence chewing
4. The chewing routine should be repeated or 30 minutes
The dosage of Nicotrol gum that you take will vary depending on how reliant you are on smoking. In a standard 12 week program, it is recommended that you choose either the 2mg or 4mg depending on your habit. In the first 6 weeks, it is recommended to chew on a piece of gum every 1 to 2 hours for 30 minutes. During weeks 7 through to 9, you should reduce this to 1 piece every 2 – 4 hours. In weeks 10 – 12, you should be able to cut down to 1 piece every 4 – 8 hours.
If you have tried to quit your smoking habit with the 2mg in the past, then it is recommended to start on the 4mg gum. Otherwise, you should only use the 4mg option if you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day. If you have exhausted all options with the gum and are still having no luck, you may prefer to try combination therapy, where you use a nicotine patch in combination with the gum. Ensure that you are sticking to the recommended dosages at all time, and don’t exceed 20 pieces of 2mg gum per day, or 10 pieces of 4mg gum.
